As well as providing a range of standard research services covering ESG, ethics, the UN SDGs, and Net Zero, Ethical Screening also offers a bespoke service to cover specific needs of investment managers, fund managers, charities, and others.

Our Service

With over 25 years of experience working with a wide range of clients, we understand and appreciate the nuances of responsible investment. We are fully aware that one single approach cannot meet the requirements of every investor, and so we work with our clients to develop bespoke solutions tailored to specific needs.

We have both the expertise and capacity to screen for activities not covered by our standard offering, set grounds for exclusion tailored specifically to our clients’ preferred thresholds, and add additional parameters to the screening process as required.

Case Study

In 2025, we were approached by a wealth adviser serving an ultra-high net worth family office with specific screening needs. The research required for this client was not provided by other companies, and so Ethical Screening was commissioned to work with this manager and meet the requirements of their client.

The objective of the family office was to establish a new exchange traded investment fund explicitly avoiding holdings in companies with links to oppression and occupation across the globe. No framework to underpin this investment approach had been established prior to Ethical Screening being commissioned, and so we were able to provide support for this.

We worked with the wealth adviser and the ultimate client to:

(i) Establish definitions of occupation and oppression, using a range of international legal standards.

(ii) Formulate a list of countries and territories deemed to be subject to occupation and oppression, based on materials from bodies such as the United Nations.

(iii) Determine what corporate activities could reasonably be linked with oppression and occupation.

(iv) Develop a methodology for identifying companies operating in covered territories, and then assessing activities of these companies against covered activities and pre-determined materiality thresholds.

Following the successful establishment of the research methodology and screening framework, these were then implemented and investment screening conducted.

The client was then able to successfully launch the fund in question, and provide stakeholders with documentation illustrating how investment decisions were made using a rigorous third-party methodology.
