UN Sustainable Development Goals
In September 2015, the 193 countries of the UN General Assembly adopted the 2030 Development Agenda "Transforming our world: the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development". Known as the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the 169 targets which make up the 17 goals provide a framework for countries to guide their path towards a more sustainable future.
The SDGs evolved from the Millennium Development Goals as a response to the criticism that they were not member-state driven; that they were too focused on aid; and concentrated only on action by developing countries.
